I am a Quality Assurance instructor with 40+ years of experience in the software business.
Creating quality software, or products of any kind, requires a commitment from decision makers to provide the needed time and resources.
With that in mind, my mission is to provide students with the basic skills and the needed quality mindset to jump-start their careers as professional software testers.
I think that effective training is more that just relaying information on the process of performing the chosen task. It’s important to start with Why before you get to How
- Establish a mission mindset (knowing why your doing something is equally as important as knowing how to do it)
- Emphasize needed skills (attention to detail, inquisitive mind, effective communication, teamwork)
- Focus on the basics (in-depth analysis of application under test, appropriate test strategy, thorough test coverage , accurate and timely reporting of issues)
My Teaching Philosophy
Over the years, advances in computer hardware and software have created increasingly useful, versatile, and complex systems.
But just because a software system is complex, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have a simple, common-sense approach to comprehending it and testing an application
There are some basic skills & techniques required to test software which haven’t changed over the years:
• attention to detail
• step by step test scenarios
• expected results for each test
• documented pass/fail status
• clear, concise, well-written bug reports
Breaking the test process down into simple, well-defined steps, enables anyone to gain an understanding of basic software testing techniques.
